Warrant/DUI

After learning that police held a court warrant for her arrest, Carole Peck, 53, of Woodbury turned herself in at the police station late on the night of July 18, and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court, driving under the influence, and making a restricted turn, police said.

The original motor vehicle charges against Peck stem from an incident that occurred on the night of April 3.

On that night, police were dispatched to the Meadowbrook Terrace Mobile Home Park at 55 Sugar Street to check on a report of a suspicious person in the area.

During that investigation, while police Patrol Officer Gary Wheeler was parked in a police patrol car alongside the eastbound lane of Sugar Street, Peck, who was driving a vehicle eastward on Sugar Street, struck the left side of the parked police car, police have said.

After arrest processing on July 18, police released Peck from custody on $15,000 bail. Peck is scheduled for arraignment August 1 in Danbury Superior Court.

Adirondack Chairs

Sometime between 12:30 and 3 pm on Saturday, July 7, someone stole two high-backed Adirondack-style chairs from the backyard of a residence at 119 Berkshire Road (Route 34) in Sandy Hook, police said. The address is near Berkshire Road’s intersection with Zoar Road.

The crime constitutes a third-degree larceny, in which the stolen goods are worth more than $1,000.

Police Officer Larissa Nosal, who is investigating, asks that anyone with information on the crime to contact her at the police station at 426-5841.

Bridgeport Man

About 3 pm July 21, while parked near the intersection of Main Street and West Street, police spotted motorist Jocemy Fanfan, 27, of Bridgeport driving a vehicle southward on Main Street that had no license plate on it, so they followed the vehicle.

Police stopped the vehicle on South Main Street to investigate, after which they charged Fanfan with driving a vehicle without a marker plate, driving an unregistered vehicle, and driving while under suspension.

After processing, police released Fanfan on a written promise to appear August 7 in Danbury Superior Court.

Main Street

About 12:30 pm July 21, police spotted motorist Edward T. Jennings, 40, of Orange speaking on a handheld cellular telephone while driving on Main Street, so they stopped Jennings to investigate.

Police charged Jennings with illegal use of a handheld cellphone while driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, failure to carry an automotive insurance identification card, driving while under suspension, and failure to return a suspended license to the state.

After processing, Jennings posted $100 bail and was released for an August 7 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Drug Possession

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Margaret Paniccia, 27, of 65 Toddy Hill Road went to the police station on the afternoon of July 21 and turned herself in, police said.

Police said they charged her with possession of narcotics in connection with a May 24 incident. Police released Paniccia on $10,000 bail for an August 7 court appearance.

Warrant Served

Newtown police said they served an arrest warrant on July 23 against Richard Washburn, 35, of 13 Obtuse Road, charging him with second-degree failure to appear in court, and also with threatening in connection with an incident that occurred last December in Danbury.

Newtown police held Washburn on $20,000 bail and then transported him to Danbury Superior Court for arraignment that day.

Wasserman Way

Police report that at about 7 am July 20, they detected motorist Francisco Junes, III, 19, of Bridgeport driving 57 miles per hour in a posted 30-mph zone on Wasserman Way, east of its intersection with Nunnawauk Road, so they stopped Jones to investigate.

Police charged Jones with speeding and with driving with a suspended license. After processing, police released Jones on a written promise to appear August 3 in Danbury Superior Court.

Mailbox

Police are investigating an incident in which someone sometime between 4 and 5 am on July 13, removed a residential mailbox from its post at a River Edge Drive residence and damaged the post. River Edge Drive is a dead-end street off Walnut Tree Hill Road, near the Pootatuck River.

Police Patrol Officer Larissa Nosal in investigating the criminal mischief and asks anyone with information on the crime to contact her at the police station at 426-5841.

Highway Crash

State police report a two-vehicle accident on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 11, about 7:45 am July 23.

In that incident, motorist Dave Null, 35, of Southbury, who was driving a 2000 Honda Accord, slowed for traffic conditions, and was struck from behind by motorist Galina D’Amico, 37, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2007 Honda Pilot, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police said D’Amico failed to drive a reasonable distance apart.

I-84 Accident

A two-vehicle collision occurred on westbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, about 8:11 pm July 20, according to state police.

In heavy traffic conditions, motorist Joshua Liska, 20, of 112 Hanover Road, who was driving a 2003 Ford F-150 pickup truck, struck the rear end of a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Alicia Tolson, 18, of Orlando, Florida, state police report.

There were no injuries. State police said Liska failed to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Flagpole Collision

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the Main Street flagpole intersection at about 12:11 pm July 21.

Motorist Gilbert Turner, 45, of South Norwalk, who was driving a 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck, was traveling southward on Main Street, as motorist Lisa Brett-Chapin, 37, of Rhinebeck, N.Y., who was driving a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe sport-utility vehicle, was making a left turn from Church Hill Road onto southbound Main Street, police said.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police issued Brett-Chapin a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Sandy Hook Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Berkshire Road and Pole Bridge Road about 8 am July 24.

Motorist Lautaro Alvarez, 35, of 276 Berkshire Road, who was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck eastward on Berkshire Road, drove into the rear end of an eastbound 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Nilza Schlemmere, 53, of Danbury, police said.

There were no injuries. Police gave Alvarez a written warning for following too closely.

Lincoln

About 12:46 am July 24, motorist Thomas Tremaglia, 49, of Waterbury was driving a 2007 Lincoln MKZ northward on Huntingtown Road, when he lost control of the vehicle on the wet road on a curve, resulting in minor front-end damage in a collision, police said.

Tremaglia was not injured. Police verbally warned him for traveling at a speed too fast for conditions.

Church Hill Road

About 1:48 pm July 24, motorist James Allen, 43, of 26½ Main Street, who was driving a 2000 Subaru Forester eastward on Church Hill Road, slowed for a pedestrian who was crossing the street, police said.

Eastbound motorist Margaret Riley, 18, of 6 Overlook Drive, who was driving a 2003 Volkswagen Passat, then struck the Subaru from behind, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Riley an infraction ticket for following too closely and for distracted driving.
