What is your business background? I always had an interest in animals. I grew up with pet birds in the house and one of them got bit by a cat, so I cleaned him up and dressed the wound. It made me realize I could see myself doing this long-term, so in third grade I wanted to be a vet.
During my senior year of high school I decided to shadow veterinarians in New York for a couple months. I got a job there at the age of 18 and got a lot of experience there. Then I went off to vet school at Midwestern University, College of Veterinary Medicine, in Glendale, Arizona. I lived there for four years and got experience doing a lot of spays/neuters, as well as TNRs (trap, neuter, release) for stray cats.
After I graduated, I came back to Eastchester, New York, and worked as a veterinarian. I felt I could take on more, so I took on a second job in Harrison, New York, as a vet for a local rescue. While working at both places I was seeing about a hundred patients a week. This all occurred during the pandemic when many people were getting dogs or cats, so I was very busy.
After a year, I went to work in Harlem, New York. From there, I decided to open my own practice and here I am today. The business opened on June 13, 2022.
What is the focus of your business? At Pet Town Veterinary, we see dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, ferrets, and small mammals. We do typical vaccines, blood work, fecal and urine tests, X-rays, spay and neuters, ultrasounds, and in-house diagnostic lab work for emergencies that require immediate attention. We also will start doing dentistry and routine surgeries.
What is something important to you that readers know about your business? What is important to me is that the client and pet are happy when they walk out the door. I like to give the best quality care and make sure that the client feels supported.
Do you have any upcoming events? While we did a soft opening, people can stay tuned for an official grand opening celebration.
Hours: Monday through Friday, 9 am to 6 pm; and Saturday, 9 am to 1 pm (closed on Sunday).
