Shoplifting Charge
Police said they received a call from store security personnel at Super Stop & Shop at Sand Hill Plaza about 5 pm July 25 alerting them to a shoplifting incident.
Police said they investigated and charged Eileen H. Tesch, 67, of 6 Grand Place with sixth-degree larceny in connection with the alleged theft of three packs of cigarettes.
Police released Tesch on a promise to appear August 8 in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charge.
Truck Vs Baby Carriage
Police report that at about 1:50 pm July 25, town worker Clarence E. Pittman, 54, of Waterbury backed up a 2001 Chevrolet town truck at Treadwell Park, striking a baby carriage which held Sophie Spenser, 9 months old, of 27 Eden Hill Road.
A coworker had gestured for Pittman to stop backing up the truck, police said. Although the truck dented the baby carriage, the baby was uninjured, police said. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps went to the scene to check out the baby.
