Newtown Stop & Shop Raises $23,740 To Help Kids Fight Cancer

The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company this week announced that the Newtown Stop & Shop store raised $23,740 as part of the 13th annual Triple Winner Game. The $23,740 is part of the $4 million raised in all Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island stores to benefit The Jimmy Fund and the Stop & Shop Pediatric Brain Tumor Clinic.

“With the hard work and dedication of our associates and the good will and generosity of our customers we were able to raise $ 4 million for the Jimmy Fund,” commented Stop & Shop President and CEO Marc Smith. “I am proud to say that through our long-term commitment to helping children Stop & Shop has now raised over $25 million for pediatric cancer research and care.”

“The Boston Red Sox are proud to be involved with Stop & Shop and Triple Winner program,” stated Sam Kennedy, Boston Red Sox vice president of sales and corporate partnerships. “As a longtime partner with the Jimmy Fund, it is wonderful to see such a worthwhile cause receiving the tremendous support that Stop & Shop’s Triple Winner program provides. We appreciate their support of the Red Sox and look forward to working with Stop & Shop as a corporate and community partner for years to come.”

The Triple Winner Game is a scratch card promotion in which every ticket is an instant winner. The program remains the single largest fundraising promotion for The Jimmy Fund.

“Stop & Shop’s unwavering commitment to the patients and families of children suffering from pediatric brain tumors and other forms of cancer continues to inspire all of us at the Jimmy Fund,” said Mike Andrews, chairman of the Jimmy Fund. “Even in this challenging economic environment, Stop & Shop and its extended family of vendors and customers raised an incredible $4 million thanks to their enthusiasm and dedication, for which we are so grateful.”

The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company, based in Quincy, Mass., employs more than 56,000 associates and operates 339 stores throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, and New Jersey.
