Flannel Underwear To Rock Stars—

River Rep To Premiere Jan Neuberger’s One-Woman Musical

IVORYTON — The River Rep, a professional New York theatre troupe now in its 17th season at The Ivoryton Playhouse, will present the premiere of Boomer Girl, a one-woman musical comedy about “being Fab at Fifty,” written and performed by Newtown resident Jan Neuberger.

Boomer Girl will be presented for one show only, on Monday, July 28, at 8 pm. All seats are $20, and the box office can be reached by calling 860-767-8348.

Boomer Girl, with lyrics by Ms Neuberger and music by Ben Cohn, explores the “realities and fantasies of middle age” including such issues as high school reunions, ex-husbands, bone density, romance novels, motherhood, flannel underwear and rock stars, according to Ms Neuberger, who says she is really “only guessing what it’s like to be fifty.”

Ms Neuberger, who will celebrate the 30th anniversary of her Broadway debut next year, began her career in the fist revival of Gypsy, directed by Arthur Laurents and starring Angela Lansbury, and later toured with Carol Channing in Hello Dolly. This autumn she will appear in the new musical Wicked (music by Stephen Schwartz, directed by Joe Mantello) at Broadway’s Gershwin Theater.

She is familiar to area audiences for her role as Therese in The Baker’s Wife, last season at the Norma Terris Theatre, and as Letitia Primrose in Goodspeed Opera’s production, On the 20th Century. She has appeared in five River Rep productions, including  The Man Who Came To Dinner and Robber Bridegroom.

The playhouse is at 103 Main Street in Ivoryton.
