ANNAPOLIS, Maryland – More than 4,000 girls from across the United States participated last weekend in the All Star Express Women’s Lacrosse Tournament in Annapolis, Maryland and Karli Beitel and Megan Regnery of Newtown were two of them.

Both were invited onto the Connecticut Lacrosse Futures team and were coached by Maureen O’Shea.

Regnery played on a team that won seven of eight game and Regnery – usually an offensive stalwart – stepped into a defensive role and did well in keeping opponents out of scoring range. Beitel scored three goals while playing on a team that won one game during the weekend.

Regnery will be entering her junior year while Beitel will be entering her sophomore year. The locals were two of the top three offensive forces for the Newtown High School girls’ lacrosse team last spring and are looking forward to another year.
