State Gets $14 Million For Energy Aid
HARTFORD (AP) â Governor M. Jodi Rell said $14 million in extra federal energy aid will be used to help thousands of low- and moderate-income Connecticut households pay their energy bills and upgrade their furnaces.
Ms Rell said about 64,300 eligible people whose homes are heated with electricity or natural gas are being targeted with $13 million of the additional aid. Thatâs because they typically receive less assistance during the winter than those using heating oil, propane, and other fuels to heat their homes.
The remaining $1 million will go toward repair and replacement of faulty furnaces in the homes of energy assistance recipients.
The stateâs Department of Social Services will work with the network of regional community action agencies to identify households that need such upgrades.
