Rotary Club Schedules Jim Osborne Memorial Golf Classic

Members of Newtown Rotary Club invite the public to join them for the Jim Osborne Memorial Golf Classic, a day of fun, golf, food, and drink scheduled for Monday, September 14, at Tashua Knolls Golf Club in Trumbull.

The Golf Classic honors the memory of longtime Connecticut resident Jim Osborne, who was a dedicated member of Newtown Rotary Club for more than 50 years before his death in 1997.

Golfers of all skill levels are welcome to take part in the fundraiser to benefit Newtown Youth & Family Services, the local mental health clinic and youth service bureau.

An entry fee of $165 per person includes 18 holes of golf (including a golf cart), lunch, refreshments and dinner. Entrants will compete for prizes in several divisions, with a 2009 Saturn awarded to the winner of the Hole in One competition.

The Rotary Club continues to seek sponsors for the event, as well. Sponsorships range from a $200 Tee Sponsor to the $2,500 Platinum Sponsor.

Non-golfers may join the festivities at 5 pm for cocktails and dinner, at a cost of $50 per person. To make a reservation for dinner only, contact Linda DeLaurentis at Newtown Savings Bank at 426-4440, extension 3182.

Deadline for registration is Friday, August 21. Registration forms are available at the Main Street branch of Newtown Savings Bank from branch manager Brian Amey.

The Newtown Rotary Club provides financial support to more than 25 local, regional, and international organizations.

In Newtown, the Rotary supports a group home for Ability Beyond Disability, Nunnawauk Meadows, Newtown Scholarship Association, Newtown Ambulance Association, the Newtown Labor Day Parade, Newtown Parent Connection, Newtown Heritage Preservation Trust, C.H. Booth Library, and also provides scholarships to the Parks and Recreations summer camps for needy children.
