‘Pajama Game’ At Abbey Theater

BETHLEHEM — The Gary-The Olivia Performing Arts Center at the Abbey of Regina Laudis will host a production of The Pajama Game as the summer 2009 performance offering at The Gary-The Olivia Theater.

Performances will be Thursday through Saturday, July 30-August 1, and Wednesday through Saturday, August 5-8, at 7:30. There will also be matinees on Sundays, August 2 and 9, at 2:30.

Tickets are $15, general admission. The box office will be open one hour before each performance.

The Pajama Game is based on Richard Bissell’s novel 7½ cents. With music and lyrics by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross, the musical presents the classic struggle between labor and management, complicated by a budding romance between workers on both sides of the conflict. The show features the songs “Steam Heat,” “Hey There, I’m Not At All in Love” and “Hernando’s Hideaway.”

The original Broadway production opened on May 13, 1954 and ran for 1,063 performances, winning a Tony Award for Best Musical. The 2006 Broadway revival won a Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical.

Featuring veteran performers and newcomers, The Gary-The Olivia cast includes Rob Iulo, Sarah Robards, Ashley Moret, Katie Keogh and Thomas Camm. Directed and choreographed by Sally Camm, the production’s musical director is Craig Hartley.

The theater is on the grounds of The Abbey, 273 Flanders Road.
