Master Storyteller At Library Features Lou Gehrig Story
Master storyteller Carol Birch will share the story of baseball great Lou Gehrigâs life, Tuesday, July 28, at 2 pm, at the C.H. Booth Library on Main Street.
 Signed to the Yankees in 1923, Lou Gehrig played a consecutive 2,130 games and won many accolades for that team until he was diagnosed in 1939 with a rare degenerative disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), now more commonly known as âLou Gehrigâs disease.â His accomplishments on the field made him an authentic American hero, and his tragic death made him a legend.
His story, told with humor and heart, grit and glory by Ms Birch, resonates for diehard baseball fans and the uninitiated alike. Ms Birch has won awards from Storytelling World and the National Association of Parenting Publications for her audio recording of Lou Gehrig: The Story of a Great Man. Ms Birch has also had the joy of telling Lou Gehrigâs story in Cooperstown, N.Y., at the Baseball Hall of Fame.
