Summer Friends At Ashlar

One of the many special programs that Ashlar of Newtown offers is its “Summer Friends” camp. Local children ages 8 to 12 spend their days interacting with residents of the skilled nursing facility.

Recently, the Beardsley Zoo sent animals to Ashlar for its summer camp. Campers were able to meet an iguana, turtles, birds, and a variety of small animals.

Another special activity during camp is the making of memory books. Children write about their experiences in camp and dedicate their books to resident summer friends. On the last day of each session, every child presents the book to his summer friend.
