Daniel Smith, a Sandy Hook resident, graduated June 11 from Hobart College in Geneva, New York. Mr Smith is the son of Mr and Mrs Dunham H. Smith, and majored in Anthropology. He received a bachelor of arts degree.

Jillian B. Horvath was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2000 semester at the University of Vermont. She is a sophomore sociology major in the University’s College of Arts and Sciences.

Blythe A. Liebgott, daughter of Nancy and Marty Liebgott of Eden Hill Road recently graduated from Bryn Mawr College in Philadelphia with a degree in history of art. She has started a job with a New York City public relations firm which represents institutions relating with artistic endeavors.

Jaclyn Arsenault of Sandy Hook recently graduated cum laude from St Bonaventure University with a bachelor of science degree in education. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs John Arsenault.

Ward Richardson has graduated from the University of Rochester with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Mr Richardson, a resident of Sandy Hook, is a 1996 graduate of Newtown High School.

Newtown resident Elisabeth C. Healey, daughter of Mrs Maryann C. Healey of Rock Ridge Road, graduated recently with honors from Trinity College in Hartford. Miss Healey received a bachelor’s degree in modern languages (Spanish and French). She also received the Book Prize for Excellence in Modern Languages for French,

and the Program of Hispanic Studies in Cordoba Prize for Excellence in Hispanic Languages, and was inducted into the national honor society, Phi Beta Kappa. She is a graduate of Immaculate High School in Danbury.

Newtown resident Kristen L. Meyer, daughter of Thomas and Patti Meyer, graduated from The Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Connecticut, during recent ceremonies. Miss Meyer was a member of the varsity track and golf teams, and was elected captain of the golf team her senior year. She sang with the concert choir and the chamber singers, and performed in several school theatrical productions. She was also president of her sophomore class, a member of the environmental club, and a community service volunteer. She will attend James Madison University in the fall.

Kelly A. Sheehan, of Clearview Drive in Sandy Hook, received her bachelor of arts degree recently from the University of Delaware. She received her degree in sociology, with a concentration in social welfare and an economics minor. In addition to her dean’s list status, Miss Sheehan was inducted into AKD, the sociology honors society. She plans to pursue a career in social work, while earning her masters degree in counseling.

Newtown resident Katharine Hayes recently received a $250 scholarship from William Pit Real Estate. Katharine, who graduated from Newtown High School this year, was recognized for her outstanding academic and community service achievements. A member of the National Honor Society and Vice President of the Junior State of America (JSA), Katharine was awarded the Red Cross Award for service, the Outstanding Youth Award, and the Bernal E. Hertburg Community Service Award from the Newtown Youth Creating AIDS Awareness for Peers group. She will be attending Villanova in the fall.

Ryan J. Loring of Newtown was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2000 semester at Springfield College. Mr Loring, who is a junior physical education and coaching major, is also a member of the men’s varsity track and field team.

Amy Grabowski of Newtown was named to the Distinguished Dean’s List at the University of Maryland for achieving a perfect 4.0 average in the spring 2000 semester.
