Buick Championship

PGA Tour players Kenny Perry and Fred Funk have committed to play at the 2004 Buick Championship at the TPC at River Highlands in Cromwell. Perry is currently fifth and Funk ninth in the Ryder Cup standings.

Other players previously committed include Nick Prive, Stewart Cink, Stephen Leancy, Brad Faxon, Peter Lonard, Zach Johnson, Jerry Kelly, Billy Andrade, Heath Slocum and Connecticut natives Tim Petrovic, JJ Henry, Casey Wittenberg and Bill Haas.

“Fred Funk has worked very hard this year to maintain his position on the Ryder Cup points list,” said Tournament Director Dan Baker. “It is fun to watch a player like Fred, who interacts with the crowd and feeds off their energy. Golf is much better off with guys like Fred Funk and Jay Haas.”

Perry won back-to-back events last year at the Colonial Invitational and the Memorial to propel him to seventh on the money list with $2.8 million. He will be making his 17th appearance at the tournament, formerly known at the Greater Hartford Open.

Funk will be making his ninth appearance at the tournament. He has won five events and made more than $13 million in his 15-year PGA Tour career. Funk, 48, is trying to earn his first spot on the US Ryder Cup team this September.
