Hospital Endowment Honors Dr Arthur Kotch

DANBURY — The Danbury Hospital Development Fund Inc, announced the establishment of the Dr Arthur Kotch Endowment Fund for Education in Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Disorders Medicine.

Initiated by Dr and Mrs Philip I. Kotch of Newtown, the endowment honors Dr Arthur Kotch’s distinguished career as a dedicated physician and superb teacher during more than 30 years of service in the Danbury medical community, according to Gerard D. Robilotti, president of the Development Fund.

Dr Kotch’s brother and fellow physician, Dr Philip Kotch, said, “To honor Arthur’s career as an outstanding physician in pulmonary medicine, members of our family have established this endowment as a testimony to his dedication to education. Arthur has made education his main priority, and this endowment will ensure that such dedication will live on for generations to enrich the lives and careers of many health professionals.”

The endowment will fund educational programs for nurses, respiratory therapists, sleep technologists, resident physicians, and allied health personnel. The goal is to raise $100,000 to serve as principal, which will be invested to earn interest income to fund these activities.  More than $26,000 has been raised to date, according to Mr Robilotti.

A resident of Redding, Dr Arthur Kotch was a principal force in establishing Danbury Hospital’s Pulmonary Department, and has played a major role as faculty, teacher, and mentor to the hospital’s Internal Medicine Residency Program. He has been a member of the American Lung Association (ALA) for 33 years, serving as its statewide president, an ALA Councilor at Large, and most recently on its national task force on lung disease.

He also has served in many capacities for the American and Connecticut Thoracic Societies, including statewide president, national representative councilor from Connecticut, and member of the national board of directors.
