Drug Charges
Police said two local men were involved in a physical confrontation with a youth under age 16 on Platts Hill Road about 2:13 am on July 16, after which the two men were charged with criminal offenses.
Police said Joseph D. Anderheggen, 21, of 225 South Main Street, and Robert J. Weiss, 21, of 108 Huntingtown Road were both arguing with the unidentified youth, who had been walking on Platts Hill Road.
Weiss allegedly exited a vehicle and then struck the youth, according to police. Police said they located Anderheggen and Weiss traveling southward on South Main Street and stopped them to investigate.
Police charged Weiss with third degree assault, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, and with possession of drug paraphernalia. Police charged Anderheggen with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana and with possession of drug paraphernalia.
After processing the two arrests, police released Weiss and Anderheggen on promises to appear August 3 in Danbury Superior Court.
Dodge Hits Tree
Motorist Zanoni Fernandes, 27, Danbury, was driving a 1997 Dodge Caravan minivan northward on Orchard Hill Road at about 4:45 am July 16, when Fernandes encountered a deer in the road and then maneuvered to avoid it, but went off the road and struck a tree, police report.
The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Fernandes to Danbury Hospital to checked for a knee injury, police said. Police issued Fernandes a written warning for making an improper turn.
Saturn Into Post
Motorist Mark Werbeck, 20, of 28 Flat Swamp Road was driving a 1999 Saturn SL sedan southward on Birch Hill Road about 2 am July 17, when he swerved to avoid a deer in the road, but lost control of the auto and struck a guardpost alongside the road, police said.
Werbeck was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for making a restricted turn.
Evading Responsibility
Police report a two-vehicle accident on Taunton Hill Road about 12:45 am July 16, in which one vehicle left the scene after the crash.
Police said a vehicle described as a full-sized white Chevrolet van was following a northbound 1998 Chevrolet Lumina, which was driven by Julie Scheurell, 42, of 4 Narragansett Trail. As the Lumina attempted to make a left turn into a driveway, the van attempted to pass the Lumina on the left and collided with the Lumina, police said. The van then kept traveling northward, according to police.
Neither Scheurell, nor four passengers in the Lumina, were injured, police said. Police said the van was probably no older than a 1996 model. Police ask anyone with information on the accident to contact them at 426-5841 or at 270-8888.
Interstate Collision
While traveling westward on Interstate 84 near Exit 9 about 7:50 am July 16, motorist Shelton Neale, 22, of Waterbury, who was driving a 1991 Honda Accord, was slowing for heavy traffic and was then struck from behind by motorist Nicole Walsh, 18, of Oxford, who was driving a 1995 Volvo 845-GTA, state police said.
The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps went to the accident to care for Neale and for Honda passenger Tataza Gooden, 22, of the same Waterbury address, state police said. Walsh was following too closely, state police said.
Heavy Traffic
Motorist Jennifer Bett, 29, of Brewster, N.Y., who was driving a 2002 Honda van eastward on Interstate 84 near Exit 9 about 4 pm July 16, stopped for heavy traffic and was then struck from behind by motorist Annette Williams, 56, of Middlebury, who was driving a 1994 Volvo sedan, state police said. There were no injuries. State police said Williams was following too closely.
Ford Into Tree
Motorist Charles Brelsford, 44, of Southbury was driving a 1986 Ford pickup truck westward on Interstate 84, near Exit 10, about 5:30 am July 13, when he lost control of the vehicle on the wet roadway, entered the highwayâs median, and struck a tree, state police said. Neither Charles Brelsford, nor passenger Nicholas Brelsford, 17, of the same Southbury address, were injured in the accident, state police said. The impact extensively damaged the truck.
State police charged Charles Brelsford with traveling too fast for conditions, failure to drive in the established lane, and driving without a driverâs license.
SUV Skids On I-84
Motorist Laurie Manion, 19, of 16 Black Cherry Lane, while entering westbound Interstate 84 at the Exit 9 onramp about 4:12 pm July 12, lost control of the 1995 Jeep Cherokee sport-utility vehicle that she was driving and spun across the highwayâs right and left travel lanes, coming to rest on the highway median, state police said. Manion was not injured. State police said Manion committed a moving violation.
Warrant
Police said they arrested Brian Cascone, 21, of 37 Turkey Hill on a warrant on the night of July 19, charging him with failure to respond to an infraction and with simple trespassing in connection with a past incident.
Police said that Cascone did not respond to an infraction ticket, which he was issued last March for allegedly trespassing while riding an all-terrain vehicle on the DâAddario Sand and Stone Company property off Button Shop Road.
After posting $92 bail, police released Cascone for an August 3 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Little Brook Burglary
Police report they learned on July 16 of a burglary that occurred at a Little Brook Lane residence sometime between July 14 and 16. Police ask anyone who saw suspicious activity in that area during that time period to contact them at 426-5841, or at 270-8888.
Church Hill Accident
Motorist Erica Marques, 25, of Easton was driving a 1994 Honda Civic westward on Church Hill Road about 5:14 pm July 17, as motorist James Antonopoulos, 21, of 45 The Boulevard was driving a 2000 Honda CRV eastward there, police said.
Marques then turned left in attempting to enter the Blue Colony Diner parking lot at 66 Church Hill Rd, but collided with Antonopoulos, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Marques an infraction ticket for making a restricted turn.
South Main Crash
Motorist George A. Powell, Jr, 64, of 6 Oak Drive, who was driving a 2003 Honda Accord, was traveling northward on South Main St, as motorist Matthew Corkum, 18, of 25 Greenbriar Lane, who was driving a 2000 Dodge Neon, was traveling southward there at about 5:16 pm July 19, police said.
Powell attempted to turn left to enter Country Club Road, but collided with Corkum, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Powell an infraction ticket for making a restricted turn.
