Tax Breaks For Police Widows?
Tax Breaks For Police Widows?
The Town of Newtown is now considering the creation of an ordinance that would provide some tax savings for widows of police officers killed in the line of duty.
And, according to Ordinance Committee Chairman Will Rodgers, there is at least one woman living in Newtown, the widow of a state trooper, who would be eligible to receive the tax break.
The state recently passed enabling legislation which opens the door for municipalities to adapt such an ordinance.
Mr Rodgers said he was still researching the issue and was awaiting further information from the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities (CCM). There does appear to be support for the plan, which was first discussed at last weekâs Legislative Council meeting.
Mr Rodgers said he does not expect the town to lose much in the way of tax revenue from the plan.
The Town of Newtown is now providing tax breaks for senior citizens (within a certain income level), and volunteer fire and ambulance personnel.
