Occupation: I am a former teacher. I graduated from the University of Vermont.

How Long in Newtown: I have lived in Newtown for 23 years. Prior to Newtown, I lived in Ridgefield.

Biggest Change Seen in Town: The construction and more people and more cars.

Family: My husband, Thomas, and I have been married for 42 years. We have two children. Susan, 36, lives in Newtown with her husband, John, and their two children, Sean, who is almost 4, and Sarah, who is 21 months. It’s nice having the grandchildren nearby. Brian, 34, is an architect and lives in Colorado. He is getting married next month.

Hobbies: Gardening, golfing, needlework, and trying to exercise.

Favorite Books and Authors: I like to read. I always have a book or two going. I don’t prefer any particular author and like almost all books. I recently read The Milford Series by Jan Karon.

Favorite TV Show: I watch very little TV, really, mostly news and sports once in a while.

Organizations: I am a member of the Newtown Woman’s Club, Meals on Wheels, and the Salem Golf Course.

Most Vivid Memory of Newtown: The Labor Day parade. It’s fun watching it and seeing all the people enjoy themselves.

Favorite Vacation Spot: Going someplace warm in the winter. We’ve been to Hawaii, the Carribean, Europe, and cruises. Last year we went on an Alaskan cruise. We also go to Colorado often to see our son.

Personal Philosophy: Do what you can to help people and make life better for everyone. Don’t complain about something unless you’re going to do something about it. Grumping gets you nowhere.
