While most of the National Football League camps opened this week, camp also opened down at Hawley School.
The Newtown High School football clinics â led by Newtown High School head coach Ken Roberts â hosted some 60 athletes (all Pop Warner players) for a week-long look at the many different aspects of the game of football.
There were conditioning drills, contact drills, blocking drills, quarterback drills and running back drills. The fundamentals of those aspects â as well as the game itself â were also covered by coach Roberts and his staff.
A live scrimmage at the end of the week highlighted the clinics.
It ran from 9 to 11:30 am every morning. All proceeds from the clinics will benefit the Newtown Touchdown Club.
And speaking of Pop Warner football, practices for the 89ers, Junior Midgets, Midgets, Junior Pee Wees and Pee Wees will start on Monday, July 30, at Hawley School. The 2001 season will officially open with jamborees in late August.
Itâs football season again!
