HARTFORD – Governor Ned Lamont on Monday announced that – in accordance with [naviga:u]a presidential proclamation issued last week[/naviga:u] directing flags to be lowered throughout the country on Tuesday, July 22, in honor of US Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens — all United States and state flags in Connecticut are to fly at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Tuesday, July 23.

A funeral for Justice Stevens, who died on July 16, is scheduled to be held at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday.

Accordingly, since no flag should fly higher than the US flag, all other flags, including state, municipal, corporate, or otherwise, should also be lowered during this same duration of time.

“Justice Stevens lived a modest life but is leaving a legacy that will have a lasting impact on the history of our great country,” Gov Lamont said. “On behalf of the State of Connecticut, we send our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues on the nation’s highest court.”
