Dodge vs Volvo

At about 2 pm on July 10, motorist Douglas Meyer, 50, of 5 North Branch Road, who was driving a 2012 Volvo S-60-T6-A auto eastward on Sugar Street, stopped for traffic conditions and was waiting to make a left turn onto West Street, when the Volvo was struck from behind by an eastbound 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck driven by Jon Pease 39, of Monroe, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Pease for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Hanover Road Accident

Police report that at about 1:40 am on July 14, motorist Emily Dion, 21, of 20 Housatonic Drive, was driving a 2013 Jeep Patriot SUV southward on Hanover Road, north of its intersection with Echo Valley Road, when she crossed the road's center line and then struck a rock along the road's northbound shoulder.

Police said that Dion told them that she had fallen asleep before the impact occurred. Dion declined medical attention at the scene, police said.

Police said they verbally warned Dion for failure to drive to the right.

Botsford Crash

Police report a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of South Main Street and Bears Hill Road about 10:50 am on July 14.

The accident involved motorist Maureen Rottjer, 78, of Monroe, who was driving a 2012 Honda Civic, and motorist Anthony Procopio, 48, of New Fairfield, who was driving a 1999 Chevrolet SUV, which was carrying seven passengers, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Rottjer for failure to grant the right of way.

Wallet Found

Police report that on the afternoon of July 14, they received for safekeeping a multicolored wallet that had been found in the Trades Lane area. The owner may contact police at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203 426-5841 to claim the item.

Three Charges On Mt Pleasant Road

Police report that motorist Peter Winans, 17, of 11 Canterbury Lane was driving a 2010 Honda Accord westward on Mt Pleasant Road, near Blackman Road, about 2:21 am on July 15, when the auto crossed the road's centerline, and then struck a utility pole along the left road shoulder.

After the collision, Winans left the accident scene and went to his home where police found him, police said.

Police said they charged Winans with evading responsibility, distracted driving, and failure to drive to the right. Winans is scheduled to appear in court on August 3 to answer the charges, police said.

Dodgingtown Accident

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Sugar Street and Rock Ridge Road about 2 pm on July 15, police report.

The collision involved motorist Savannah Lima, 20, of Bethel, who was driving a 2001 Honda Civic auto, and motorist Veronica Howe, 57, of Danbury, who was driving a 2015 Buick Encore SUV, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Lima an infraction for following too closely.

Intersection Collision

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the four-way intersection of Church Hill Road, Washington Avenue, Riverside Road, and Glen Road in Sandy Hook Center about 2:26 pm on July 15, police said.

The accident involved motorist Emily Sprung, 16, of 7 Papoose Hill Road, who was driving a 2001 Subaru Legacy auto, and motorist Jennifer Rice, 27, of Danbury, who was driving a 2016 Toyota Highlander SUV, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Sprung for failure to grant the right of way.

DUI Arrest

Police said that at about 2:46 pm on July 15, motorist Andrew Leydon, 55, of Harrisburg, Penn., was attempting to park a vehicle at the Mobil gas station at 62 Church Hill Road, but in doing so, Leydon struck a parked vehicle there.

After investigating, police said they charged Leydon with driving under the influence.

On July 16, Leydon was released on $50 bail for a July 28 court appearance, according to police.

Sandy Hook Crash

Police report that motorist Sean Kondas, 21, of 15 Great Ring Road, was driving a 2003 Ford Crown Victoria sedan eastward on Wasserman Way about 1:40 am on July 16, and then attempted to make a right turn onto Berkshire Road, but failed to negotiate that turn and crossed through the intersection, striking an embankment.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Kondas an infraction for a travel lane violation.

Rochambeau Bridge Incident

Police said that while working on the Lake Zoar Marine Patrol about 2 pm on July 16, they spotted John McGrath, 22, of 18 South Lake Drive, climbing on the Rochambeau Bridge, which carries Interstate 84 across Lake Zoar.

McGrath was uncooperative with police and provided a false name, police said.

Police report they issued McGrath an infraction for simple trespassing and also charged him with interfering with police.

Additionally, police arrested McGrath on a warrant, charging him with second-degree failure to appear in court in connection with a past incident.

Police held McGrath on $15,000 bail for a July 18 court appearance.

 

Four Motor Vehicle Charges

Police report that while on patrol about 8:40 pm on July 16, they stopped motorist Daniel Rosario, 21, of Danbury near the intersection of Berkshire Road and Lone Oak Meadows Road to investigate.

Police said they charged Rosario with speeding, driving an unregistered vehicle, misuse of marker plates, and an automotive insurance violation.

Following processing, police released Rosario on $500 bail for a July 28 court appearance.

DUI Incident

Police report that at about 1 am on July 17, motorist Kyle Merrick, 23, of Bethel, was driving near 1 Dodgingtown Road and then lost control of the vehicle while swerving to avoid striking an animal.

The vehicle then entered a parking lot, hit a concrete block and smashed into a parked vehicle, police said.

After investigating, police said they charged Merrick with driving under the influence, making a restricted turn, possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police released Merrick on $100 bail for an August 2 court appearance.

Golf Clubs Stolen

On July 17 police issued a statement in seeking to locate some golf clubs which were recently stolen from a local country club.

At about 4:30 pm on May 31, a unknown white male, who had a shaved head and a beard, entered the men's locker room at Rock Ridge Country Club on Sugar Street in Dodgingtown and then stole a black golf bag which has the brand-name Ping on its exterior, police said.

The bag contained multiple Taylor-Made brand golf clubs which have the owner's name inscribed on them, police said. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the theft to contact investigating Officer Felicia Figol at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Five Charges

Police report that at about 2:19 am on July 19, motorist George Salaris, 18, of 11 Country Squire Road, who was driving a 2015 Toyota Camry sedan near 98 Berkshire Road, lost control of the vehicle and struck an embankment, a mailbox, and a stone wall.

There were no injuries. Police said that after investigating, they charged Salaris with driving under the influence by a minor, making a restricted turn, possession of a controlled substance (marijuana), illegal sale of a controlled substance (marijuana), and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following arrest processing, Salaris was released on $500 bail for an August 2 court appearance, police said.

SUV vs Mailbox

Police report that motorist Gina Musumeci, 36, of 16 Split Rock Road was driving a 2014 Toyota RAV-4 SUV on Key Rock Road, near North Branch Road, about 8:43 am on July 19, when she briefly became distracted, after which the vehicle went off the road and struck a curbside residential mailbox.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Musumeci a misdemeanor summons on a charge of driving with a suspended license.

Church Hill Accident

At about 4:08 pm on July 19, motorist Scott Gregson, 19, of 4 Papoose Hill Road, who was driving a 2001 Subaru Legacy, was attempting to exit the Wheels Citgo gas station at 67 Church Hill Road, as motorist Linda Donahue, 74, of Southbury was driving a 2001 Chrysler Town & Country minivan westward on Church Hill Road, police said.

The two vehicles then collided. Police said that Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps went to the scene and checked a passenger in the Chrysler, but made no transport. Newtown Hook & Ladder volunteer firefighters also responded, police said.

A Danbury man, who was a passenger on a motorcycle that was involved in an accident with an automobile on Interstate 84 on the afternoon of Sunday, July 17, was listed in good condition on Thursday morning in Danbury Hospital, having improved from critical condition on Wednesday. Passenger Luis Miguel DeMaoura, 25, of Danbury, received serious injuries in the collision, state police said. According to state police, at about 4:29 pm, motorcyclist Armindo V. Freitas, 65, of New Fairfield was operating a 2016 Harley-Davidson FLHXS Street Glide in the left lane of three lanes on westbound I-84, about 200 feet east of the Exit 10 off-ramp, with DeMaoura as a motorcycle passenger, as motorist Imadulla Mohammed Samiulla, 45, of Middlebury, was driving a 2015 Nissan Sentra auto in the center lane. Samiulla, who was slowing to avoid colliding with traffic ahead of him in the center lane, stepped on his brakes and veered into the left lane, sideswiping the motorcycle, state police said. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Freitas and DeMaoura to Danbury Hospital, state police said. Freitas was treated for injuries and released, a hospital spokeswoman said. Newtown Hook & Ladder volunteer firefighters also responded to the accident; Chief Ray Corbo is on the right of the group of people in this photo.
