Wilma Mahoney Brokaw, 88, died July 16, at the Jewish Home for the Elderly in Fairfield. She was born June 22, 1923, in Plains, Texas, the daughter of Eula Rutledge Mahoney and Jack Francis Mahoney.
Mrs Brokaw is survived by two children, including Diane Thompson, and her husband Anthony âChipâ Carpenter, of Sandy Hook; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, in 1961; a brother-in-law; and a sister.
Mrs Brokaw loved music. She sang, and played the piano and violin, and added the guitar in her later years. She met her husband Louis Stryker (he later changed his name to John Brokaw) at the Pasadena Playhouse acting school in California.
She worked for John Ahlbin & Sons in Bridgeport in human resources, from 1960 to 1978. She was often seen riding her bicycle to work from Fairfield to Bridgeport wearing a white hat, gloves, and white boots. In 1978 she moved to Tequesta, Fla.. where she volunteered at The Pavilion at Jupiter Medical Center, until 2001.
There will be a memorial service Saturday, July 30, at 2 pm, at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
