NHS Grad Has Photo On Display In Danbury Exhibit

By Eliza Hallabeck

Class of 2010 Newtown High School graduate and current Hofstra University student Kateleen Foy has a photograph on display along Kennedy Park Boulevard, Danbury, along with 11 other photographers’ works in a Housatonic Valley Cultural Alliance and HARTransit Juried Photography exhibit.

Kateleen said each of the photographs in the exhibit were printed on waterproof paper to withstand being outside until the exhibit comes down in October.

“I always like photography,” Kateleen said this week, following the exhibit’s opening on Friday, July 15. “When I was little I always played with cameras.”

At Hofstra University, Long Island, N.Y., Kateleen is studying both photography and psychology.

“I’ve always had a real interest in people and behavior,” she said.

Kateleen moved to Newtown in seventh grade, after growing up in New Jersey.

While the photograph Kateleen has on exhibit is of two tennis rackets, Kateleen said she pays close attention to body language when photographing people.

Other photographers involved in the exhibit are Tom Curley and Vincent Rodriguez of New Milford; Arthur Von Plachecki of Sherman; Dennis Yates of Woodbury; and Stephen Fritzer, Nancy Jackson, Emily D’Andrea, and Barbara Lloyd, all of Danbury.

During her time at NHS Kateleen studied with Newtown photographer Cynthia McIntyre and Brookfield photographer Laurie Klein. She has had her photography in exhibits before, including an exhibit in 2010 at the Danbury mayor’s office and an school art show in the spring at Hofstra.
