Newtown 2011

Municipal Nominations

To the Editor:

On November 8, Newtown will vote again for fellow residents to represent us as a part of our municipal government.

Both the local Republican Party and the local Democratic Town Committee will be endorsing their slate of candidates on July 26.

If you have wanted to participate in town government and missed the major parties process, the Independent Party of Newtown is currently interviewing prospective candidates for their slate.

The IPN, an official local minor political party, seeks candidates who are registered as Independent, Republican, Democrat, or Unaffiliated, who are open-minded, want to serve Newtown’s best interest, are supportive of quality services, support open communications, accountability, and, most importantly, transparency in local government. No previous experience in town government is required and we encourage those new to our community to become involved. If you have been interested in serving but you have been unsure of which position to seek, we can help pair up your talents, interests, and previous experiences with the various town board positions.

The IPN, one of the most successful Independent Parties in the State of Connecticut, strongly believes in continuing to provide choices of candidates in the local municipal elections for continuous improvements in local government.

The IPN is unique in that its ten elected and numerous appointed members are made up of Independent, Republican, Democrat, and Unaffiliated registered voters. As a municipal party, we do not ask nor require candidates whom we endorse to give up their national party affiliation. The IPN’s sole focus is on local issues. No national political litmus test is required.

If you wish to explore the opportunity to serve Newtown and to have your voice heard, please contact Donna Monteleone Randle, the nominating chair of the Independent Party Newtown, at ndrandle@charter.net or by calling 203-364-9772.

Our nominating committee will meet to discuss potential candidates on Thursday, July 28, so if you would like to be considered, please reach out to us soon. We look forward to hearing from you!
