A 'Rocking Dance Party' For Children At The Library
Francine Wheeler welcomed children to the first "Rocking Dance Party" of the summer at C.H. Booth Library on July 11. The events are open to children between 4 and 7 and are also scheduled for July 25 and August 1.chboothlibrary.org, by clicking on the calendar event.
"We're going to do some singing and dancing," said Ms Wheeler, with children around her forming a circle.
Ms Wheeler has 20 years of experience teaching music and movement to children, according to the library. Marcella Daily acted as Ms Wheeler's assistant for the day on July 11.
The group sang one song together to open the program. Ms Wheeler then led the students in a game. She had them pretend she was a toy store owner and the children were the toys. Ms Wheeler explained when the owner left for the night music would turn on and the toys would begin dancing all around the "store."
"Think how your body would move if frozen as a toy," said Ms Wheeler, pretending to be a ballerina as an example. Then the game began.
Students laughed, danced, and jumped around the library's meeting room.
The "Rocking Dance Party" programs will include a mix of dance party songs and traditional folk songs and games, according to Ms Wheeler.
Parents can register their children for the programs online at
