Since 1997, The Newtown Junior Women’s Club has annually donated back-to-school backpacks filled with school supplies through their Backpack Program to fulfill the needs of children in Newtown. Newtown Social Services works in coordination with NJWC to inform the club about quantities and supplies needed.

This year the club expects to fill approximately 92 backpacks with required supplies.

Ruth Brassard, chairperson of the NJWC Backpack Program, along with other members of the club, shop and organize the supplies to prepare for “pack night” on Thursday, August 20.  The approximate cost of each filled backpack is $30.

Monetary donations earmarked for this program are graciously accepted.

Tax-deductible donations can be mailed to NJWC, PO Box 618, Newtown CT  06470.

Newtown Junior Women’s Club is a volunteer 501(c)(3) organization that takes pride in giving back to the community. Its signature programs are the holiday Tag-A-Gift Program, Backpack Program, and Discovery Science Workshops. More information about the club can be found at NewtownJuniorWomen.com.

Residents are invited each year to help Newtown Junior Women's Club fill back-to-school backpacks for children whose families need a hand. This month the club is looking for financial donations to jumpstart this summer's program
