Former Newtown youth and high school players and coaches got together back on June 17 for the first annual Newtown Alumni Lacrosse game and the response was strong.

“The turn out was excellent for our first year,” said organizer Ken Law. “There was a lot of positive feedback and the game is on the way to becoming a regular event. Newtown athletes have a great sense of tradition and having an event where everyone can get together with former coaches, old friends and teammates is a wonderful way to relive some of the glory days.”

The Newtown varsity squad was led by seniors Marc Ingerman, Ty Law, Grant Speer, Drew Harmata and Michael Conroy and they played an alumni team featuring former standouts John Oliver, Casey Kirch, Kyle Kirch, Charlie Heinzer, Dan Mallen and Ted Yemc. Pete Kohut, former Newtown football coach and current lacrosse referee, officiated the event.

Next year, the game has already been tentatively schedule for the same weekend as the Newtown Blue & Gold football game and will be expanded to include a women’s alumni game.
