Ella Dougherty Knowles

Bridgeport Hospital Nurse’s Aide

Ella Dougherty Knowles, 87, of Ansonia, died July 17 in Lord Chamberlain Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Stratford. Mrs Knowles was born in British Columbia, Canada, and was an area resident for many years.

She is survived by her five devoted children, Robert Lombard and his wife, Haydee, of Newtown, Terrence Vernes of Florida, Diane Evans of Shelton, Joyce Jerauld and her husband, David, of Pennsylvania, and Nancy Knowles of Middletown; eight loving grandchildren, Pamela Able and her husband, Alan, Terrence Vernes and his wife, Maureen, Karen Lebinski and her husband, Paul, Kurt Evans, Lori King and her husband, Richard, Rebecca Klie and her husband, Andrew, Davina Margal and her husband, Geoffrey, and William Lombard and his wife, Grisel; nine cherished great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husbands, Laurens Vernes, William Lombard, and Roy Knowles; son, Roy Knowles; sister, Dora Dougherty; daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Vernes; son-in-law, Andrew Evans; and granddaughter, Kelly Lombard.

Mrs Knowles was a retired nurse’s aide at Bridgeport Hospital, a member of the Seymour Senior Center, and a member of the AARP.

Funeral services took place July 19 in the Cyril F. Mullins Trumbull Funeral Home, with the Pastor Donald Evans of the New Life Christian Fellowship Church officiating. Interment was in King’s Highway Cemetery, Milford.
