Call In A Few Favors

To the Editor:

Does someone owe you a favor?

If you answered “yes,” we at Newtown Youth Services need you.

As many are aware, your nonprofit youth service bureau is raffling off a 2006 BMW Mini Cooper convertible, from which proceeds will fund programs and counseling opportunities for Newtown’s youth and families. We’ve got tickets available at businesses all over town, but with ten weeks to go before the lucky winner’s name is drawn, we could use your help.

Why not consider buying a ticket or two to support NYS? The cost is $20 a pop, a veritable drop in the gas tank when you consider what it costs to fill up these days. You may just win the hottest car on the market today. At the very least, your contribution will help strengthen the services NYS offers young people.

Here’s a special challenge. Remember that part about someone owing you a favor? Why not agree to take a book of ten tickets from us, and find ten friends to sell them to. You’ll use up a few favors, but you’ll have fun doing it.

With a little help from our friends, NYS will meet its goal of selling 2,500 tickets, which will net the agency about $25,000. That’s an enormous chunk of change for an agency that relies on grants and contributions to pay its bills.

If you’re up to the challenge, we’ll be happy to deliver a book or two to your home or place of business. Selling tickets isn’t everyone’s idea of a good time, but you’ll get tremendous satisfaction from volunteering. I know I do.

Thank you in advance for your help. For tickets, please call our office in Sandy Hook at 270-4335. They are also available from Joy Kopesky, board secretary, at 426-9637 or myself at 364-0822.

Sincerely,

Chris Gardner
