US Navy Veteran Of World War II
Alvin E. Stern, 81, of Sandy Hook, died July 15 at Danbury Hospital. Mr Stern was born in Bronx, N.Y., a son of Murray and Ida (Goldberg) Stern.
He is survived by his loving wife, Norma (Eichenblat) Stern of Sandy Hook; his devoted daughter, Hollis (Holly) Garkofsky and her husband, Seth, of New Hampshire; a granddaughter, âHis beloved one and only best girl,â Shayna Garkofsky; his niece and nephew, Tobi Lichter Morris and Allan F. Lichter, who were like his own children; and by several other nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. Mr Stern was predeceased by his sister, Ethel Paula Cohen.
Mr Stern enlisted in the US Navy at age 17, and served on The LST for four years during World War II. He was retired from The Paul Revere Life Insurance Company with more than 20 years of service, and was associated with DRS of Danbury in shipping and receiving for more than 23 years.

Shiva was observed on July 18 at the home of Tobi Morris, Huntington. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family. The Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home, 88 Beach Road, Fairfield, is in care of the arrangements.
