The Society of the Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will continue its summer series of one-day workshops this month.

“Introduction to Oil Painting for Beginners” will be offered Saturday, July 27, from 10 am to 4 pm, in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street.

Whether a total beginner or an artist looking to try a new medium, the workshop will introduce students to the challenges of working with oil paints. Participants will explore a wide variety of tips and tools and learn how to set up a palette, mix colors, establish values, and develop a strong composition.

Lisa Willvonseder-Greto, a longtime SCAN member and instructor, will lead the six-hour workshop. Ms Willvonseder-Greto is an award-winning artist who has been working in oils for many years.

Cost for the workshop is $80 ($60 SCAN members), which covers all materials. Reservations are requested and can be done by sending a check payable to SCAN to PO Box 41, Newtown CT 06470, with an indication that the check is for the Oil Painting for Beginners Workshop.
