Robert Joseph Schock

Robert “Bob” Joseph Schock, 71, of Mystic, formerly of Ridgefield, died peacefully at his home, July 15. He was born May 9, 1941, in Philadelphia, the son of Joseph A. and Norma McCarty Schock of Downingtown, Penn.

After a very successful sales career working for Hallmark, Gulf Oil, Xerox, and Microform Data Systems, he transferred to Connecticut in 1973. His own company, Colonial Data Technologies Corp, in New Milford and Herndon, Va., a telecommunications device manufacturer and service provider, mapped the development of Caller ID for use in commercial and residential telephone systems in the United States.

Mr Schock retired in 1998 to Mason’s Island, Mystic, to enjoy the Connecticut coastline. He cherished time spent fishing and boating, and appreciated the nature around his home. He also enjoyed years being a private pilot, and hunting. He looked forward to lunch with “the guys,” and always valued the company and loyalty of a good friend. Talking history and politics was a must, and if you didn’t agree with him, he liked the debate even more.

In addition to his wife of 48 years, Margaret (Peggy) Doran Schock, his children Kimberly Hufschmied of Newtown, Susan Turley, and her husband Brian, of Mystic, Bobby Schock, and his wife Lisa, of Winter Springs, Fla.; and son-in-law Peter Fortier, and his wife Irene, of Canton survive Mr Schock. A daughter, Karen Schock Fortier, predeceased him. He was a beloved “Grandpop” to his seven grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister Carol Bernard, and two brothers, James and Joseph Schock.

Funeral services will be private.
