Two-Man Best Ball

Participants in the Member Guest can bring their guests to play a 9 hole gross and net tournament. Members may also team up with another member for this event. This year brought 24 teams and the competition was fierce once again. Winners on the gross side were Janet Duffy and Howie Busse, posting a 2 under 33, beating the field by 2. Second place went to Mike Portnoy and guest Jonathan Costa.

On the net side, president of Rock Ridge, John Kortze, and his brother Cary took the victory, posting a 6 under 29 and edging out Mike Johnson and guest Mike Stachura by 1.

Two-Day Member/Guest

One of our premiere events during year, The Two-Day Member/Guest consists of five 9 hole matches within 4 flights. Each flight consists of six teams of two which are determined by handicap. Winners of each flight and the two teams with the most points that did not win their flights would move on.

Defending overall Champions Mike Johnson and guest Mike Stachura were looking to create some of the magic they had last year and started out great, winning their flight with a tournament record 10.9 points. Mike Portnoy and guest Jonathan Costa had a fighting chance of being a wild card with 6.4 points.

Flight Two went to Art Fuller and his son Mack with 7.3 points edging out another father son duo of John and Chris O’Connor by 2 points. Flight Three came down to the wire as Rick Varnum and guest Victor Evaristo won their last three matches to take the flight with 7.2 points. Rob Merrifield and guest Liam O’Keefe could only hope their 6.6 points would be enough to get in the shootout as a wild card.

Flight four had 5 of the 6 teams with positive points and the final team ended up even. Coming from behind to win was Chris Donohue and guest Joseph Parsons with 6.1 points. With Peter Gialo and Bill Piccirillo posting 4.2 points, the two wild card teams moving on were Portnoy/Costa and Merrifield/O’Keefe.

The shootout is to determine the overall winners of the Two-Day Member/Guest. Each player gets 90 percent of their handicap and plays off the low man in the event. Two teams are eliminated after hole one, followed by one team after hole two, one team after hole three, and then sudden death. Defending champions Johnson and Stachura saw their chances of repeating slip away as they along with Donohue and Parsons were eliminated on the first hole. With four teams remaining, pressure definitely became a factor. Next team eliminated was Portnoy and Costa, leaving Fuller/Fuller, Varnum/Evaristo and Merrifield/O’Keefe. After a costly bogey on number 3, Fuller and Fuller were eliminated, ensuring that the overall winners would be from Flight Three. A three put on the fourth hole from Liam O’Keefe left the door open for Varnum/Evaristo but a costly missed 2 footer gave the victory to Rob Merrifield and Liam O’Keefe.
