Mary Ellen Bulan

Mary Ellen Bulan, 101, died peacefully at her home, July 14, to be with her loving husband of 62 years, Stanley, who predeceased her on April 20, 2012. She was born March 20, 1911, in New York City to Irish immigrants Mary (Walsh) and James Patrick O’Mahony.

A born and bred New Yorker, there was no place she would rather be than in the heart of Manhattan. She was in the fashion and textile industry in New York for more than 25 years with the textile firm of Avondale Mills. Career driven and independent, she was a woman ahead of her time. She enjoyed all of the excitement that New York had to offer, and to this day would have loved to be in the center of Times Square more than anywhere else.

Mrs Bulan was a faith-filled woman who was a daily communicant most recently at St Rose of Lima, where she continued her quest for knowing, loving, and serving God. She was a kind and gentle woman, who demonstrated a generous and loving spirit to those around her.

Her daughter Marilyn Doyle, and her husband Judson, of Newtown and son Stephen Bulan, and is wife Patricia, of New Fairfield, seven grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter survive Mrs Bulan. Her sisters, Helen O’Gara, Catherine Coleman, Margaret O’Mahony, Bridget Dunne, Joan Moriarity, and Patricia Babcock predeceased her.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated July 18. She was laid to eternal rest next to the love of her life, at St Rose of Lima Cemetery, Sandy Hook.

Memorial contributions may be made to Regional Hospice and Home Care of Western Connecticut, 405 Main Street, Danbury CT 06810 or at regionalhospicect.org.

Funeral arrangements were in care of the Honan Funeral Home, Newtown.
