Brook Stiewing graduated cum laude from Marist College recently. She received a bachelor of science in psychology and a master of arts in educational psychology. Miss Stiewing is certified to teach elementary and special education. During college she studied abroad in Madrid, Spain, where she participated in a year-long internship at a residential facility. Miss Stiewing will be relocating to Hawaii on the island of Kauai to be a special education liaison.

Providence College recently announced four students from the area who were named to the collegeâs spring deanâs list. The students include Emily Marron of Newtown, Lindsey Malloy of Newtown, Jennifer Bacsik of Sandy Hook, and Erin Cavanaugh of Botsford.
Syracuse University College of Visual and Performing Arts named two students, Adam Winner of Newtown and Jaclyn Shea of Sandy Hook, to the spring 2001 deanâs list.
The University of Vermont named junior Alexis I. Danziger of Newtown to the spring deanâs list. She is a political science major at the university.
Leah Prokop of Newtown was named to the deanâs list for the spring 2001 semester at Wheaton College. She is a member of the class of 2002 and is the daughter of Marguerite Smith.
Michael Kutka, MD, son of Michael and Anne Kutka of Newtown and Wellfleet, Mass., graduated from the post graduate training of the Medical College of Wisconsin Department of Surgery.
Dr Kutka is a graduate of Newtown High School, Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York, and The Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians in Dublin, Ireland.
The University of Delaware announced two local students who received degrees from the university during commencement exercises May 26. Elizabeth Anne Huisking of Newtown received a bachelor of science in business administration. Lauren Ray Pelletreau of Sandy Hook earned a bachelor of arts.

Chief Wendy Gilvey
Chief Wendy Gilvey, a 1979 graduate of Newtown High School, retired from the United States Navy July 12 in a ceremony at Naval Air Engineering Station in Lakehurst, New Jersey. Chief Gilvey was an Air Traffic Control Specialist.
Chief Gilvey is married and has three children. She is the daughter of Paul and Diane Wilson of Venice, Florida, formerly of Sandy Hook.
