Council Approves Pay Raises
Council Approves Pay Raises
The Legislative Council July 19 approved the transfer of more than $110,000 to cover normal cost-of-living salary increases for both town hall employees and police personnel.
The transfer from contingency to town hall employees account totaled $47,504 and is a result of a recent contract settlement. The agreement states that all town employees working 20 hours or more (except department heads) will receive raises of 31/4Â percent as of July 1, 2000.
The transfer from contingency to sworn police personnel totaled $69,920 and is the result of a recent contract settlement. Police had been working without a new contract since June 30, 1999, so some of the money will be used to cover police employeesâ back pay.
First Selectman Herb Rosenthal explained that the money for both town employees and police had been put into the 2000-2001 budget as contingency to cover these costs when and if the contract talks concluded.
