Struck Fence
Newtown Police report that an unidentified vehicle struck a white wooden fence on Berkshire Road near Old Mill Road sometime between July 2 and July 3. Police said that the vehicle was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road when it crossed into the eastbound travel lane, left the roadway, and collided with the fence. The vehicle left the scene of the accident.
There were tire marks in the grass on the eastbound side of Berkshire leading up to the fence. The front bumper of the vehicle left black scuff marks on the fence.
Tucson Hits Jetta
Newtown Police report that Carolyn Shay, 70, of Woodbury, operating a 2020 Hyundai Tucson, was traveling northbound on Berkshire Road at 7:36 pm July 4. Rilind Limani, 21, of Newtown, operating a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta, was stopped at a traffic control light. Police said Shay attempted to turn left onto Wasserman Way and the front left bumper of Shay’s vehicle struck the front left bumper of Limani’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Shay’s vehicle was towed from the scene.
Shay was issued a written warning for failure to drive in the proper lane.
Police Seeking Information
Newtown Police report that over the 4th of July holiday weekend, offices at 19 Church Hill Road were entered and damage was caused. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Newtown Police Department and refer to case 2200008323.
Collided With Stopped Car
Newtown Police report Julia Brennan, 18, of Newtown, operating a 2015 Toyota Corolla, was traveling south on Currituck Road at 10:21 am July 5. Rojay Roberts, 35, of Stamford, operating a 2008 Ford F450 utility truck, was stopped in the southbound lane of Currituck Road to do utility work. Lori Garofalo, 47, of Bethel, operating a 2021 Kia K5, stopped approximately 150 feet from Roberts’ vehicle. Police say Brennan was unable to stop and the front bumper of her vehicle struck the rear bumper of Garofalo’s vehicle. Roberts’ vehicle was not hit.
Garofalo complained of neck pain and was transported to Danbury Hospital. Garofalo’s vehicle was towed from the scene.
Brennan was issued an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Rolled Forward, Hit Truck
Newtown Police report Lester Burroughs, 93, of Southbury, operating a 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz, was exiting the commercial parking lot of 6 Queen Street at 9:36 am July 6.
Nur Alam, 32, of Brewster, N.Y., operating a 2012 Mercedes Sprinter, a Fed Ex truck, was stopped at the traffic light to exit the commercial parking lot at 6 Queen Street. Burroughs’ vehicle rolled forward and the front end of his vehicle made contact with the rear end of Alam’s vehicle.
No damage was observed on either vehicle.
No enforcement action was taken because the incident occurred on private property.
Arrested For DUI
Newtown Police report Joseph Gargano, 48, of Newtown, was arrested at 1:30 pm July 7 on the charges of illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and failure to drive upon the right.
He was released on a promise to appear with a court date of July 21.
Disorderly Conduct
Newtown Police report Scott Kimball, 52, of Southbury, turned himself in to the Newtown Police Department at 4:12 pm July 8. He was charged with disorderly conduct. He was released on a promise to appear with a court date of July 11 at Danbury Superior Court.
Hit Oncoming Car
Newtown Police report Juan Rodriguez, 73, of Bethel, operating a 2011 Ford F150, was traveling westbound on Sugar Street at 4:29 pm July 8. Rodriguez was traveling behind a 2011 Hino 268 box truck operated by Mario Ponce-Flores, 43, of Bethel. Police say Rodriguez crossed into eastbound traffic in an attempt to pass the truck and collided with a 2015 Lexus ES350 operated by Alisha Mansaram, 25, of Sherman. Rodriguez’s vehicle then traveled off the right side of the roadway and onto a private property before striking a tree, and then continuing and coming to a stop on top of a large rock.
Rodriguez was transported to Danbury Hospital for minor injuries. Rodriguez’ vehicle and Mansaram’s vehicles were both towed.
Rodriguez was issued an infraction for passing in a no passing zone and traveling too fast for conditions.
Hit Utility Pole
Newtown Police report Corinne Heymach, 26, of Stamford, operating a 2017 Subaru Impreza, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 2:39 am July 9. Police say Heymach crossed the center line, over-corrected and struck a curb on the northbound shoulder of the roadway. The front passenger’s side of the vehicle struck a utility pole before coming to a stop.
No injuries were reported. Heymach’s vehicle was towed from the scene due to disabling damage.
Heymach was issued an infraction for making a restricted turn and distracted driving.
Failure To Appear
Newtown Police report Tyler Rivard, 24, of Newtown, was arrested at 3:40 pm July 9 on a warrant. He was charged with second-degree failure to appear. Rivard was held on a $7,500 bond with a court date of July 11 at Danbury Superior Court.
Hit Car Backing
Newtown Police report Sungsil Pringle, 65, of New Milford, operating a 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek, was backing out of a parking space at 26 Hawleyville Road at 3:45 pm July 12. While backing from the spot, she backed into a 2017 Subaru Legacy operated by David Coelho, 71, of Danbury.
No injuries were reported. There was damage to the rear of Pringle’s vehicle and the driver’s side of Coelho’s vehicle.
Pringle was issued a verbal warning for operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
