WATERBURY â The Equine Management Department at Teikyo Post University is offering horse lovers the chance to brush up on their knowledge of horse care and stable management through two days of lectures and practical work.
These seminars will be offered on two separate Sundays in July â 13 (Section 1) and 20 (Section II), and then again on twos Sundays in August â 17 and 24, from 9 am to 4 pm.
While it is relatively easy to find someone to teach you to ride, when you want to learn how to look after a horse, it is not so easy to get the theoretical and practical knowledge you need. These seminars will offer the chance to learn the reasons âwhyâ we do things as well as âhowâ to do them.
Included in the first seminar will be evolution, basic anatomy, safe handling, grooming methods, as well as fitting and care of tack. The second section will cover watering and feeding, signs of health, emergency care and first aid, environmental issues and pasture maintenance. In each case, the morning session will be spent in the classroom, while the afternoon session will take place in the barn covering the practical aspects of these topics.
These âhands-onâ seminars will be held at the TPU Barn at Rivers Edge Farm, (off RT 69) in Bethany, CT. The cost is $100 per section, or $180 for both sections.
