The Second Company Governorâs Horse Guard will hold its annual horse show on Sunday, July 20. A new pavilion on the grounds â as well as a new surface for the Western ring â is among some of the changes and improvements this year.
The show is a rated show, open to all. The Connecticut Horse Show Association, the Connecticut Morgan Horse Association, the Arabian Horse Club of Connecticut, the Connecticut Hunter and Jumper Association and the American Saddle Horse Association rate this yearâs horse show.
Driving classes will be available this year.
The show will go on rain or shine. Troopers have been preparing for the show for the last several weeks and are looking to host a good time for riders and spectators as well. Admission is free.
A food tent will be set up on the grounds for all. Area merchants and horse related vendors will also be on hand. Those riders who have not entered as yet may contact show secretary Pamela King at 203-758-8602.
The show is a fund raising event for the Troop. The Second Company Governorâs Horse Guard is an all-volunteer state militia unit originally chartered in 1808. A non-profit organization, the Horse Guard relies mostly on itâs own fund raising efforts. In addition to its efforts, the Horse Guard supports the community by hosting fund raising for St. Judeâs Childrenâs Cancer Research Hospital, local Food Banks, The United Pegasus Foundation for Premarin Foal Rescue as well as itâs own Special Needs riding program called âSaddle up for Lifeâ which serves the special needs adults of Southbury Training School.
New this year is the regularly scheduled mounted patrols of state forests and parks. The Horse Guard needs your support in order to continue to exist.
