Sobriety Checkpoint Planned For This Weekend

Police plan to conduct a motorist sobriety checkpoint on the night of Saturday, July 19, and early morning hours of Sunday, July 20. Police did not disclose where in town the checkpoint will be held. Nine police officers will participate.

At the checkpoint, each passing motorist will be stopped and briefly interviewed by police to determine whether they have been using alcohol or drugs.

Police plan to conduct two more checkpoints in August.

The summertime sobriety checkpoint program and roving patrols are budgeted at $15,700 in police overtime. Of that amount, $11,775 is covered by a federal highway safety grant.

The first of the three summertime sobriety checkpoints initially had been scheduled for June 21–22, but was postponed to July 19–20 due to rainy weather.
