Newtown Scholarship Association Awards

 The Newtown Scholarship Association awarded scholarships to 14 college-bound high school graduates from Newtown. NSA president Mark Korotash presented the scholarships on June 18. The 2003 scholarship recipients, the named scholarships they received, and the colleges the recipients will attend are as follows:

Elizabeth Arnold, the David Sippin Award, Bryant College.

Margaret Bamberg, the Garden Club of Newtown Award, Guilford College.

Amanda Bucholtz, the R.Y. Brown, Jr, Award, Roosevelt University.

Caitlyn Elf, the WIN Award, Stone Hill College.

Allison Frobey, the Ernie Badillo Award, Plymouth State College.

Karimiah Gottshalk, the Lee Lin Hsin Chin Award, Parsons.

Lucia Haladjian, The Taunton Press Award, Hampshire College.

Steven Hubina, the Newtown Rotary Club Award, UConn.

Sarah MacKnight, the Lt Robert W. Vogel, USN, Award, Keene State College.

Stephanie Prorock, the Brett Pryor Award, Southern Connecticut State University.

Melissa Rushefski, the Greg Chion Award, UConn.

Brandon Russell, the Newtown Savings Bank Award, Boston College.

Morgan Eve Swain, the Chion Band Award, Hampshire College.

Theodore Yemc, the Bob and Pam Gleason Award and the Jonathan Ullo Award, the Rhode Island School of Design.

Scholarships awarded to 2003 graduates and as continuing aid to undergraduates will total in excess of $150,000. The Newtown Scholarship Association was established as a nonprofit organization in 1937 to promote and advance the education of secondary school graduates who reside in Newtown by providing financial aid to promising students. Since awarding its first scholarship of $50, the NSA has provided more than $2 million to Newtown students.
