Local Teacher Cited For Excellence

Nanette Maturi, a teacher at Thomaston Center Elementary School in Thomaston, was among this year’s recipients of the Connecticut Association of Schools Exemplary Program Award, presented by Educational Commissioner Theodore Sergi. Close to 1,000 educators attended the commemorative ceremony at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington recently.

Anthony Molinaro, former president of the Connecticut Association of Schools and Dr Gary Rosato, chairman of the Connecticut Association of Elementary School Principals, also addressed the honorees and assisted Dr Sergi in presenting the awards. Approximately 97 schools statewide received similar honors.

Emceed by Action News 8 Weather Center Director Geoff Fox, Dr David Larson, executive director of the Connecticut Association of Public School Principals, was the keynote speaker for the evening. “Our enthusiasm and expectations play a critical role in students’ success,” he said. He encouraged his audience to work together to create a positive learning environment for all.
