House And Garden Tour A Success

To the Editor:

On behalf of the Newtown Historical Society, we would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to all who helped make our ninth annual Historic House and Garden Tour a record-breaking success. It was so gratifying to see such an outpouring of community spirit last Saturday. Hours and hours of work go into the preparation of homes and gardens so that they may be shared with us.

Dr and Mrs Stephen Herman, Mr and Mrs Simon Charles, Mr and Mrs Arthur Hunter, Mr and Mrs Jeffry Crofutt, Mr and Mrs George Miller, Mr and Mrs Josef Fiala, Karen Boyle and Mark Poirier and Mr and Mrs Harvey Pessin shared their beautiful homes and gardens.

Tour guides were Gloria Ricco, Betty Warner, Sylvia Poulin, Clare Gentile, Rosemary Rau, Clair and Bethany Ober, Marietta Bacsik, Terry Hennessey, Nancy and Jim Larin, Marianne Scanlon, Nancy Dvorin, Cathy Sullivan, Judy Bolduc, Bonnie Miller, Eleanor Zolov, Janet Hovious, Laurie Wrabel, Sheila Johnson, Amy Dent, Deb and Becky Osborne, Helen Rodia, Becky Schoenfeld, Ellen LaPak, Sally O’Neil, Kaila Preipke, Cindi Kromberg, Joanne Zang, Susan and Ian White, Sue and Katie Aiello, Laura Hennesy, Palmer Chiapetta, Lynn Basset, Mary Antey, Marcia and Larry Cavanaugh, Josephine Watkins, Faith Gulick, Sheila and Cos Civale, Marie and David Johnson, Samantha Villa, Pat Benkovich, Brid Craddock, Gordon Williams, Peg Gross, Kate and Isabelle Mills-Tennebau, and Jennifer Tichon. Thank you to anyone else we might have forgotten. Again, a big thank you to Deb Osborne and Marcia Cavanaugh for serving as co-chairs in charge of staffing properties.

Special thanks to Vinnie Davis at Prudential Realty, Cathi Massi at Flagpole, Elin Hayes, Stevenson Lumber, the Drug Center, Lexington Gardens, Shannon Hicks and The Newtown Bee, and of course the hard working, ticket selling staff at the main circulation desk of the C.H. Booth Library. Without you All our success would not have been possible.

All proceeds from the house tour will go toward the preservation and ongoing maintenance of the Matthew Curtiss House Museum and the educational programs sponsored by the Newtown Historical Society, which is a nonprofit organization.
