Childrenâs Programs
*Leland Kelloggâs Masterpiece Theatre: Professional actress Leland Kellogg will offer a second drama workshop, âMasterpiece Theatre: Art and Drama in One,â to focus on famous artists and their masterpieces. Under Mrs Kelloggâs expert guidance, children will bring to life such famous works as âMona Lisa,â âBlue Boyâ and others.
The class will meet Monday through Friday, July 28 to August 1, from 2 to 4 pm each day. Participants must to 7-10 years of age and able to attend all five sessions.
A $20 fee is due upon registration. Call the libraryâs childrenâs and young adult department for more information, 426-3851.
*P.J. Family Story Time and Puppet Show: PJ Time continues on Wednesday, July 16, at 6:30 pm, in the libraryâs meeting room. Children ages 3 and up will enjoy stories, songs and a puppet show. Come in your PJs and bring your blanket. No registration is required.
*Israeli & American Folk Music: Rabbi Praver has been performing music for young and old since his early childhood. A professional cantoral concert artist who grew up in Great Neck Long Island and lived in Israel for over a decade, this talented rabbi will have the children clapping and joining in as he performs songs from the American and the Israeli tradition.
Join us on Wednesday, August 13, at 10:30 am, in the libraryâs meeting room. Admission is free and registration is not required.

Young Adult Programs
*Nutmeg Book Discussion: On Wednesday, July 16, at 4 pm, we will talk about Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan, a story of how a young Mexican girl finds a way to rise above the circumstances of a family tragedy. Books are available now in the Young Adult Area.
Check one out and sign up at the main floor circulation desk or by calling 426-4533. This program is for ages 10 and up or students entering fifth grade or higher in the fall (no younger siblings, please).
*Poetry Workshop: Join us on Tuesday, July 22, from 3 to 4:30 pm, when published poet Thalia Marakas will work with ages 10 and up (or entering fifth grade or higher in the fall). Curious beginners to experienced writers are all welcome to join in this exploratory, creative afternoon. The workshop is limited to just 15 students. Register at the main floor circulation desk or call the library.
*Chill With Will: Leland Kellogg of Newtown will bring Shakespeare to life through various levels of multimedia in a theater workshop she calls âChill With Will: Young Adult Shakespeare Theater Workshop.â The program is for students entering grade 7 or above, will run August 4-9, and will culminate with an evening performance.
Ms Kellogg is the head of drama at the School of Performing Arts in New Milford.

*Young Adult Calendar Additions: Leslie Troy of Newtown will lead two special programs this summer. The first, âSummer Science Sampler,â is for students entering grades 4-6 (ages 9-11). This class will meet on Tuesday, August 5, from 1:30 to 3:30.
Participants will have fun in a session filled with hands-on science excitement including Kitchen Chemistry, Bubbleology, Aerodynamics and Physical Science. The class is limited to 14 students. Sign up at the Main Floor Circulation Desk or call the Library.
Mrs Troyâs second program, âNewtownâs Architecture Explored Through Folk Painting,â is for students in grades 7 and up (ages 12-15). This class will meet on Monday, August 11, from 1 to 4. Students will learn how to depict our historic town in the folk art style, and no prior painting skills are needed.
The class is limited to 12 students and there is a $5 materials fee, which is to be paid at sign-up. Sign up at the Main Floor Circulation Desk or call the library.

Adult Programs
*Summer Concert Series: Bring a picnic basket and your lawn chairs and spend a happy hour or so listening to some homegrown local musical talent on the lawn behind the library. The series continues this year on Friday, July 18, with a performance by Washboard Slim and the Blue Lights, and then concludes on Friday, August 15, with The Golden Angels Jazz Band. Concerts take place at 7 pm. In the event of rain concerts will be moved inside the library.
*Computer Programs: Dan Tannenbaum of Newtown Computer Training Center will offer an intermediate-level computer class on Saturday, July 26, from 9 am to noon. It will focus on more advanced Web issues including downloading files, saving pictures as well as topics related to e-mail. Pre-registration is required along with a $10 fee. Call the library for more information.
*Book Discussion Groups: The daytime book discussion group will meet next on Monday, August 11, at 1 pm, to discuss The Trial by Franz Kafka.
The Mystery Book Club will be reading C is for Corpse by Sue Grafton on Tuesday, August 19, at 7 pm.
The discussions promise to be lively, and new members are always welcome.
*Job Transitions: Wayne Szmyt will be returning to the library on Wednesday, August 13, at 7 pm, to discuss job transitions and how to network. The program is free but registration is required; call the library.
