Organ Fund Drive Update
Organ Fund Drive Update
By Tanjua Damon
The fund drive for the organ at Newtown Meeting House continues. To date, The Heritage Preservation Trust has received $5,884 from 94 contributors to go toward the $75,000 it cost to restore the 1924 pipe organ.
The meeting house is a town-owned building that is self supporting and is available for the public to rent for weddings, civic groups and church events. The Trust began collecting for the restoration cost in late June through an envelope that was in The Bee. The fund drive is an ongoing effort to help pay for the restoration of the organ that received water damage from Hurricane Floyd, which came through the area in September 1999.
Trust president Don Studley is thankful the Newtown community is helping with the restoration costs through their donations.
âThey are still coming in at a steady pace,â Mr Studley said. âI think itâs wonderful.â
The organ is located in Newtown Meeting House, at 31 Main Street. For more information about using the meeting house call 426-1767.
Anyone wishing to donate money for the restoration can send donations to Heritage Preservation Trust, PO Box 3082, Newtown CT 06470-3082.
