Landscape Demo Being Hosted By SCAN, July 24

Master pastelist Rae Smith will be demonstrating in pastel at the next meeting of The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) on Wednesday, July 24, at 1:30 pm. Her subject will be a landscape.

The meeting and program are open to the public and will be held in the lower room at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole) in Newtown. All are welcome and admission is free.

Rae Smith has exhibited her expressive, impressionistic pastel paintings in juried exhibitions throughout the United States as well as Japan, China, Italy, Russia, France, Taiwan and Canada. Her work has won many awards in juried exhibitions. She has been published in art books magazines and journals. Many of her awards have been top awards.

Ms Smith was elected master pastelist by the Pastel Society of America in 1997, having won more than three awards at the National Arts Club, in New York City. Her popular pastels and oils range in subject, depicting goldfish ponds, the dunes of Ocean City and other local landscapes.

She is listed in The Directory of American Painters, Sculptors and Engravers and in Who’s Who in American Art. Ms Smith is presently on the teaching staff of the Katonah Art Center, Katonah, N.Y. She also teaches weekly in Brigantine, N.J.

The work of Ms Smith was featured in Pastel Techniques, a book written by Jason Chang, and published by the Taiwan Education Department, Taiwan, earlier this year.  She has four paintings in an exhibition in Feyitat, France, this summer.

Her painting, “Swirling Koi,” just won an award in a juried show at the Marin Society of Artists Gallery in Ross, Calif. In addition, one of her fish pond works was purchased and installed in the new Hackensack University Medical Center at Pascack Valley which opened in June. She also has three fish pond paintings hanging in the new Surgical Wing of Shore Memorial Medical Center in Somers Point, N.J.

Her works will be in juried shows at the National Arts Club, NYC, September through November.

She is represented by Accent Gallery in Ocean City, N.J.
