Treehouse Comedy Club Reopening With John Melendez

DANBURY — The Treehouse is proud to announce the reopening of the Treehouse Comedy Club at a new location: The Holiday Inn at 80 Newtown Road. The new location will launch with a show by John Melendez on Saturday, July 25.

The Treehouse is converting some under-utilized banquet space into a 175 seat Treehouse Comedy Club that if needed, can be opened up to 260 seats for bigger acts.

After a four and a half year run at the New Sorrento in Danbury, the Treehouse learned that the Danbury Road business was closing and that it was necessary to find new digs.

New contracts have been signed “and we are excited to be paired with a professional, guest friendly and guest oriented operator,” said Treehouse founder Brad Axelrod. “We are looking forward to providing improved food and service to Treehouse guests in a clean and exciting and fun atmosphere.”

On opening night, unconventionally both headlining and hosting will be longtime “Tonight Show with Jay Leno” announcer “Stuttering” John Melendez. Millions of people weekly heard Mr Melendez introduce Jay Leno for his “Tonight Show” monologue. Besides being the show’s nightly announcer, Mr Melendez also regularly appeared in the show’s comedy sketches and did correspondent pieces.

Before his five year run as “Tonight Show” announcer, Mr Melendez was a 15-year cast member of “The “Howard Stern Show.” He grabbed national notoriety stuttering his way through interviews with the rich and famous. Mr Melendez simultaneously worked as a field reporter for the nationally syndicated “Howard Stern Television Show,” where he worked for two seasons as an interviewer and in sketch pieces for the show’s man-on-the-street segments.

“Stuttering” John will headline and host the opening night performance, which will include sets by Jennifer Grant, who was nominated Best Female Stand-Up by Canada Comedy Festival in April, and Greg Vacarello, who headlines regularly all around the country and has been featured on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “The King of Queens” and with recurring roles on “Law and Order Special Victims” and “Law & Order Criminal Intent.”

Showtime is 9 pm and tickets are $19.50. A VIP Backstage Party will take place after the show, where Treehouse guests and John Melendez fans can take pictures, get autographs and ask questions in an intimate, close-knit, semi-private session for an additional $10.50.

Dinner will be available prior to all shows, with seatings at 7, 7:15 and 7:30. Dinner guests always get priority seating in the showroom and there is a two-purchase or $10 minimum per person inside the showroom for non-dinner guests. The minimum is waived for all dinner guests.
