Sobriety Checkpoint Announced
Town police plan to conduct a sobriety checkpoint on the night of Saturday, July 21, and the early morning hours of Sunday, July 22.
Eight police officers and a supervisor will be on duty to check passing motorists for sobriety. Police did not disclose where they plan to hold the checkpoint. Police have held such checkpoints at various locations in the past.
Every vehicle passing through the checkpoint will be stopped. Police will talk to drivers to determine whether they are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
Also, police will be checking whether motorists and their passengers are wearing seatbelts and child safety restraints.
The sobriety checkpoint program is funded in part through a state highway safety grant. That $10,500 grant also will cover some costs of other planned sobriety checkpoints and other motor vehicle enforcement work.
