Medicine Wheel Plant Workshop

WASHINGTON — The Institute for American Indian Studies will host a class on the “Medicine Wheel Garden: Cultivating the Healing Plants,” presented by E. Barrie Kavasch, an IAIS research associate and ethnobotanist.

The class will be held on Sunday, July 29, from 10 am to 4 pm. The fee is $50.

Interested participants are asked to come dressed to work and join Ms Kavasch in a day devoted to the sacred space. They will nurture the garden as well as their spiritual growth as they top-dress and cultivate the various plants within the great circle and discuss their many benefits and uses.

This is another in the series of IAIS certificate courses in native plant studies. Participants honor the ancient past with blessing rituals, beginning with a cedar and sage smudge. All are asked to bring a hand shovel, gardening gloves, notebook, and lunch.

Participants will enjoy a Medicine Wheel tea and snack together as they work and reflect upon the sacred space. They will also talk about establishing their own unique Medicine Wheel garden and altar to the Earth’s energies.

Call E. Barrie Kavasch at 860-354-3128 to reserve space. The institute, where the workshop will be held, is at 38 Curtis Road in Washington.
