Retirement Evokes Memories

To the Editor:

Sitting here in my North Carolina home I read The Bee on my computer.  I lived in Newtown most of my life and still love to see who I know that is still there.

I sat today reading an article on an old family friend, George Mattegat, who is retiring.  I just want to wish him the best of everything in his retirement. George is a wonderful man and I’m sure his smiling face will be missed in his travels rounding up lost dogs and such.  One of my very first jobs as a kid was working for George at the kennel behind the dump. I learned a lot about responsibility, respect, and care for these poor misplaced animals.

George also was kind enough to loan us his wonderful antique car when I married my husband Charlie. Every time I look back at those photos I think of George and the wonderful things he has done. So George, good luck to you and enjoy your retirement. Stay healthy and keep smiling.

Sincerely,

Amy (Robins) Goodsell
