Organic Farms And Lawn Care Guide Available
MONROE â CT NOFA announces the publication of its 2004 Farm, Food and Land Care Guide, which lists certified organic farms, sustainable growers, and accredited organic land care professionals, as well as restaurants and co-ops that support Connecticut farms.
The guide lists 44 farms that are either certified organic or whose operators have signed the Farmerâs Pledge that they use organic and sustainable practices. Arranged by county, the guide provides contact information for each farm and a listing of products raised and sales venues. A convenient chart makes it easy to find farms that produce, for example, garlic or eggs, pork or perennials, cranberries or cheese.
There are also convenient lists of the farmersâ markets where these farmers sell and of the CSAs, or Community Supported Agriculture farms, that sell shares in the seasonâs production.
The guide also includes 13 accredited organic land care professionals. These are landscapers who have been trained in organic methods and agree to use the NOFA Standards for Organic Land Care to guide their work for customers who want organic landscaping services.
A list of special events includes Taste! Organic Connecticut (to be held on September 12 in Coventry) and other organic food events.
The guide is available free to CT NOFA members and at NOFA events. The information is also available on the web at www.ctnofa.org. To get a hard copy, send $2 to cover postage and handling to Guide, CT NOFA, Box 135, Stevenson CT 06491.
